Is Amazon In Trouble?

I don't think so, but it looks like Amazon will finally be getting some competition. Barnes and Noble just revealed their new online digital bookstore with over 700,000 titles.

Unlike Amazon's Kindle only policy, the digital books offered by Barnes and Noble will be readable on most
popular handheld devices, including your iPhones and Blackberries.

You will also be able to read Barnes and Noble's digital offerings on your laptop or pc. Amazon has a huge inventory of titles, but they're only readable with their popular Kindle e-reader. Both bookstores will make most new releases and bestsellers available for the typical download price of $9.99.

Barnes and Noble may have a slight edge in this battle, because you won't need a proprietary device to read their books.

They're hoping to grab some of the expanding e-reader market away from Amazon's popular Kindle. By making their library accessible to a variety of devices, including handhelds, and laptops, I think they have a good chance of doing just that.

There is one caveat, Barnes and Noble's library will not be compatible with the Kindle, or with Sony's popular e-reader, not yet anyway. The upshot of the story is, I think we're going to see more kids downloading books to their iPhones. What do you think? leave a comment.

I heart Amazon.

Amazon is very in tune with its Kindle users and they'll respond to this as any other turn in the market. They are truly agile--the design, price and significance of the Amazon Kindle has changed dramatically over the last year alone. That's practically unheard of. I see an Amazon's response being that you can download books from B&N and read with the update you just added to the OS on your Kindle.

As in your other entry with Amazon buying Zappo's - they see the signs and they respond. I often wonder if the over saturation of Amazon is going to affect the customer but I'm fairly sure that any book seller who decides to offer content electronically is always a winner and I hope they all play nice so that any content us gluttons for words want will be at our fingertips!

OMG, the next entry, "Amazon buys Netflix!"

Connie, Thanx for your

Connie,

Thanx for your observation. I don't think Amazon is really worried. So what have you heard about Netflix?
