Bing Launches New Satellite
If you have been wondering where Bing gets those beautiful images for their homepage, this may explain it. Last week Bing participated in the successful launch of Digital Globe’s new WorldView-2 satellite which will capture imagery of the Earth and eventually be added into Bing Maps. The first photo wasn't able to be taken for for the first 48 hours.
The satellite had to orbit the Earth twice before they could crank the lens to face the sun, so they could obtain a perfect white color synchronization. After the first 48 hours staging period Bing! the first photo was taken. Bing will help in introducing a truer view of the world with this powerful satellite.
It is the first commercial satellite offering 8-band capability with unsurpassed accuracy. Thanks to Bing and DigitalGlobe we will have a better visual understanding of the world. I can't wait to see the first pics.
