Google Introduces Sidewiki
Google is lauching Sidewiki today. It is named appropriately, as it will be a wiki that shows up as a sidebar to the information you're browsing. You will be able to read and write entries along the side of the page, enabling you to contribute useful information for the next user. By using an algorithm to rank the information, the most relevant entries will be shown first. All entries are ranked in real time.
Of course with Google, there is always plenty going on "under the hood." They have even more technology included that will take your comments about the current page and display it beside webpages that contain the same snippet of text. For example, an entry about a speech by President Obama will appear on all webpages that include the same quote. They also add in relevant posts from blogs and other content that refers to the information on the page your reading. No one does information like Google.
Google Sidewiki is being released as a feature of Google Toolbar for Firefox and IE, they're still working on bringing the feature to the other browsers. They have been working on and testing Sidewiki for quite some time with experts and news organizations and are confident in their new release.
You can download the new Google Toolbar with Sidewiki by clicking here and start contributing your own entries today. Well, I've got to give this new Sidewiki a spin, I'll let you know how it turns out.
