Twitter Hacked-Again
Well it looks like Twitter was hacked...again. TechCrunch revealed hundreds of documents forwarded to them by the hacker, Wednesday. It appears that in this instance, the hacker got hold of an employee's personal e-mail account password. The unnamed Twitter administrative employee was hacked about a month ago, it seems. Through that attack, it is believed, the hacker gained access to the employee's Google Apps account. That's the new Google Apps package that includes e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, calendar and other Google services for $50 per user per year.
The methods used by the hacker to gain access to Twitter, underscore the dangers of the new trend promoted by Google Inc. and others toward storing more data online, instead of on computers controlled by you. Executives at Twitter believe only one user account was potentially compromised, because a screenshot of the account was included among the stolen documents delivered to TechCrunch.
Twitters popularity has increased dramatically in the last few months, after being used by protesters following the recent Iranian elections. "We are in touch with our legal counsel about what this theft means for Twitter, the hacker and anyone who accepts and subsequently shares or publishes these stolen documents," Twitter said in their official blog post. What this means to the public is, be careful in combining your personal information with your business information, and use more secure passwords. Don't use your street address, that's an easy one.
