eBay is retiring its eBay Blogs platform on 10/31/2009. So, if you just had the grand idea to start an eBay Blog and use your blog as a newsletter to drive relevant traffic from Yahoo, Google, Bing, and other search engines to your blog, you're too late, sorry.

eBay says that although eBay Blogs provided useful and interesting information, they have decided to focus on "making eBay the best place to buy and sell on the Web." eBay Blogs were designed and built with search engine optimization in mind, blog pages were indexed by the major engines almost immediately.

All you had to do was write your blog, everything else was on auto-pilot. Just add "eBay to go" to your blog and you had a ready made store. I'm sure the current eBay bloggers will miss this source of income.

If you are the publisher of an eBay Blog, you must print or save your blog entries before Oct. 31st, when that section of the eBay site will be closed. If there are any eBay bloggers reading this, please leave a comment and let displaced eBay bloggers know where to start anew.

In a couple weeks, Yahoo will be sponsoring it's third U.S. Open Hack Day. If you happen to find yourself in New York City around Times Square on October 9th or 10th, you should drop in to Yahoo's Open Hack 2009. It is being billed as "two days of learning, networking, coding, and fun." It’s all free and you’re invited! You will be among developers from around the world. It's being held at the Hudson Theater and Millennium Broadway Hotel in Times Square.

What is Open Hack Day? Yahoo says, "It’s what happens when clever web developers, a wireless connection, a host of web services, and massive quantities of caffeine, pizza and donuts come together for an all-night code-a-thon. After 24 hours, creative coders show off their mashup wares and clever apps, American Idol-style, before a panel of distinguished judges, who bestow awards, praise, and lots of geek cred."

The weekend starts with keynote speaker and internet guru, Clay Shirky. There will be ongoing tech talks, panels, workshops, and there will even be a "geek open mic." It's anyone's guess who will take home the prize, but it promises to be another great event. So, if you have the time, drop in and see what all the excitements about.

Google is lauching Sidewiki today. It is named appropriately, as it will be a wiki that shows up as a sidebar to the information you're browsing. You will be able to read and write entries along the side of the page, enabling you to contribute useful information for the next user. By using an algorithm to rank the information, the most relevant entries will be shown first.
